You open the side door of your van, ready to grab your tools and get to work.
But there’s something in the way. Again.
Your ladder is lying across the cargo floor, right in front of the toolbox, equipment or materials you need.
So you move the ladder, grab what you came for, and put the ladder back.
The same thing happens at the next job. And the next.
Sound familiar?
Sometimes, improving your work van doesn’t require expensive equipment or a complete interior redesign. One small change can make a surprisingly big difference to your everyday working life.
And that change might be as simple as getting your ladder off the floor.
For many tradespeople, a ladder is one of those tools that doesn’t get used constantly.
An electrician might spend most of the day working at ground level. A plumber or maintenance technician might go through several jobs without needing to reach anything above head height.
But sooner or later, there’s a light fitting to replace, a cable to install or something just out of reach.
And when that moment comes, having your ladder already in the van is incredibly convenient.
No driving back to the workshop. No borrowing a ladder from someone else. No wasting time trying to find another solution.
That’s why so many professionals carry a ladder in their van every single day, even when they only use it occasionally.
The problem isn’t bringing the ladder along.
The problem is where to put it.
Every bit of cargo space in a work van is valuable.
You need room for tools, equipment, spare parts, materials and everything else your working day requires.
When your ladder is lying on the floor, it doesn’t just take up the space directly underneath it. It often makes the surrounding space harder to use, too.
Need something from the bottom shelf? Move the ladder.
Trying to reach a toolbox near the bulkhead? Move the ladder.
Loading a larger item into the van? Move the ladder again.
Each time might only take a few seconds, but when you’re opening the van doors dozens of times a day, those small interruptions start to add up.
And it’s not just about the time.
Constantly moving things around makes your working day more frustrating than it needs to be.
A well-organized van is one where everything has its own place. Your ladder should be no exception.
There’s another reason to think about how you store your ladder.
Ladders aren’t designed to be walked on while lying on the floor or to have heavy tools and materials dropped onto them.
If you’re constantly stepping over your ladder, standing on it or placing equipment on top of it, there’s a risk of bending or damaging its structure.
Over time, that damage could affect the ladder’s strength and safety.
A ladder lying across the cargo floor can also create a tripping hazard when you’re climbing in and out of the van.
Giving your ladder a dedicated storage space helps protect it from unnecessary impacts and keeps it away from everyday foot traffic.
Of course, ladders should still be checked regularly for damage, regardless of how they’re stored.
Look up inside your van.
There’s often a surprising amount of unused space just below the roof.
What if you could store your ladder there instead of on the floor?
A ceiling-mounted ladder holder for vans lets you make use of this otherwise wasted space.
Your ladder stays inside the vehicle, ready whenever you need it, but no longer gets in the way of your tools and equipment.
When you need the ladder, simply release it from its holder. When you’ve finished, put it back in its own dedicated place.
No more moving it around just to reach something else.
Depending on the vehicle’s structure, a ladder holder can also be installed on the side wall, offering another practical storage option.
Anyone who spends a lot of time driving a work van knows how irritating rattling equipment can be.
A loose ladder can make noise every time you accelerate, brake or drive over an uneven road.
And when you spend hours behind the wheel, even a small rattle can become incredibly annoying.
This is why adjustability matters.
For example, the Finnish-made E-Flex ladder holder can be adjusted to accommodate ladders between 9 and 15.5 cm thick.
You simply adjust the holder to match your ladder and secure it with the durable Unimer rubber fastening system.
When properly installed and adjusted, the ladder stays firmly in place instead of moving around and rattling freely during the journey.
It’s a small detail, but one you’ll appreciate on every drive.
The story behind the current E-Flex ladder holder is a good example of how practical ideas often come directly from people who use work vans every day.
In autumn 2024, one of our customers, Juuso, visited our workshop in Tuusula, Finland, with his brand-new Ford Transit Custom.
He had already installed an older version of our ladder holder, but he’d made an interesting modification.
His ladder was thicker than the original holder could accommodate, so he’d built his own extension piece.
He proudly showed us what he’d done and explained how he thought we could improve the design.
We sat down together, discussed his ideas, and I made some notes.
Afterwards, I contacted our sheet metal design engineer, and we started working on the improvements.
A few design changes later, we began producing the updated, adjustable ladder holder that we sell today.
Sometimes the best product improvements come from simply listening to the people who use them.
A big thank you to Juuso for the inspiration!
There are many ways to improve a work van.
Shelving systems, drawers and storage solutions can make a huge difference to how efficiently you work.
But not every improvement needs to be a major investment.
A ladder holder is a great example of a small accessory that solves a very common problem.
The E-Flex ladder holder is made from strong, 5 mm thick powder-coated steel and comes with a 10-year warranty.
The package includes two pre-assembled holders and the mounting screws required for installation.
The holders are designed to attach to the van’s roof crossmembers. Alternatively, they can be mounted to suitable structural supports on the side wall.
The important thing is to choose appropriate mounting points and install the holders securely, following the installation instructions.
Once everything is in place and correctly adjusted, your ladder has a dedicated home inside the van.
Simple, practical and ready for everyday use.
Good van organization isn’t necessarily about having the most expensive equipment or the most complicated storage system.
Often, the best improvements are the ones that eliminate small problems you deal with every day.
When your ladder has its own holder, you no longer need to think about where to put it.
It’s there when you need it.
It’s out of the way when you don’t.
It doesn’t take up valuable floor space, doesn’t block access to your tools and, when properly secured, doesn’t rattle around while you drive.
Your van stays tidier, your equipment is better protected, and your working day becomes just a little easier.
And when that small improvement makes a difference every single day, its value soon becomes clear.
Your ladder should always come along for the job – it just shouldn’t get in the way.
